Walking in Truth — What I’m Learning Through John
This is my second time reading the Gospel of John.
I’ve realized I’m a slow reader—and for the first time, I’m okay with that.
Because I’m learning… this isn’t a race.
I’d rather understand than rush. I’d rather let it sit than just say I finished it.
And this time, it’s hitting differently.
Opening the door
If I’m being honest, my only regret is that I didn’t open the door to God sooner.
But I’m also learning something else:
God has His own way of knocking again.
Not loudly. Not forcefully.
But consistently… patiently… until you’re ready to answer.
And now that I have, I see things differently.
I’m starting to understand that my life doesn’t answer to everything around me—
it answers to Him first.
And somehow, when that’s in place, everything else begins to fall where it should.
What John is teaching me
The book of John keeps bringing me back to something simple but deep:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
I used to think truth was just about knowledge.
Now I’m realizing—it’s about how you live.
To walk in truth means:
- being honest with yourself
- not ignoring what feels off
- not forcing what doesn’t align
- choosing clarity over confusion
It’s not always comfortable, but it’s freeing.
Heart, mind… and something higher
One thing I’ve been learning:
👉 Don’t follow your heart
👉 Don’t rely only on your mind
👉 Let God lead both
Because the heart can feel strongly and still be wrong.
And the mind can justify things that aren’t right.
But when God leads, there’s something different:
- a quiet clarity
- a steady peace
- less confusion, more alignment
A calm mind sees clearly
A wise man told me recently:
A calm mind will see things clearly.
A calm mind will understand what the heart sometimes can’t.
That stayed with me.
Because when everything is loud—emotions, thoughts, opinions—it’s easy to get lost.
But when you slow down… when you get still…
you start to see what’s actually there.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Peace is not negotiable
I’m learning to pay attention to my peace.
Because truth and peace seem to go together.
And honestly…
A clear mind is worth more than gold.
If something constantly costs me my peace,
that’s not something I’m meant to hold onto.
What really matters
At the end of the day, I’m realizing something that puts everything into perspective:
It’s not how much of the Scriptures I know…
it’s how confidently I can look up when judgment day comes.
That kind of confidence doesn’t come from knowing more.
It comes from living in truth.
Where I am now
I’m still learning. Still growing. Still unlearning a lot too.
But now I’m choosing:
- to take my time
- to stay connected to Jesus
- to move with clarity instead of confusion
- to choose peace, even when it’s not easy
And to trust that when my life is aligned with God…
everything else will work out the way it’s supposed to. 🤍
